Joe Biden Tests Negative for COVID-19
Shortly after President Donald Trump announced on Friday that he and his wife, Melania, have been diagnosed with COVID-19, Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden said that he and his wife, Jill, have tested negative for the coronavirus.
Both Bidens had attended Tuesday's presidential debate between Trump and Biden, the Washington Post reported.
"I'm happy to report that Jill and I have tested negative for COVID," Biden said in a tweet. "Thank you to everyone for your messages of concern. I hope this serves as a reminder: wear a mask, keep social distance, and wash your hands."
But hours after Trump tweeted about his positive COVID-19 test, Fox News anchor Chris Wallace, who moderated Tuesday night's presidential debate, said the Trump family did not wear masks at the event in Cleveland, breaking safety protocols established by the debate venue, the Post reported.
Biden's family and supporters were all wearing masks, Wallace added.
"Mrs. Trump came in wearing a mask, but took it off once she sat down," Wallace said. "I didn't see when they came in, but all the other members of the first family that I saw there -- including Ivanka, Tiffany -- when they sat down, they weren't wearing masks."
Wallace echoed the accounts of several reporters who were present at the debate, who said Friday that before the debate started, someone from the Cleveland Clinic staff approached the first family and offered them masks in case they didn't have them, and they "waved them away."
Meanwhile, Democratic vice presidential candidate Kamala Harris also said Friday that she has tested negative for coronavirus.
